When it comes to maintaining a school’s infrastructure, the roof plays a critical, yet often overlooked, role. Recently, Black Hills Roofing, a local roofing contractor, stepped in to help Hill City continue to provide a safe, comfortable environment for their students by re-roofing Hill City Middle School and Hill City High School, a project that wrapped up by the first day students returned to class for the 2024-2025 school year.
The project kicked off on May 30, 2024, and aimed to address the extensive hail damage the two schools had suffered during the previous years. Black Hills Roofing upgraded the schools’ roof system to a 72mil Sarnafil PVC membrane, installed over a 900psi cement board to better withstand future hail impact and protect the schools for decades to come.
Re-roofing the two schools was no small feat, but Black Hills Roofing approached the challenge with professionalism and precision. With help from TJ Schmidt with the Hill City School District, the roofing contractor was able to finish the project on time and within budget, allowing students to return to new and improved schools on their first day of class.
The successful completion of this re-roofing project stands as a testament to what can be achieved when a local business and community work together. With the new roofs in place, the middle and high schools are better prepared for whatever weather may come.
Black Hills Roofing was proud to be part of a project that provides a safe learning environment for Hill City’s students and looks forward to being a part of future community improvement initiatives throughout the Black Hills region.
